The Kiel-Canal (in Germany known
as the Nord-Ostsee-Kanal) is the world's
busiest artificial waterway - more than 42.000 vessels transitted the Kiel-Canal in 2008.
It is the safest, shortest and the most
convenient shipping route between the
North Sea and the Baltic Sea.
An average of 280 nautical miles will
be saved by using the Kiel-Canal instead
of the way around Skaw.
